# Text Input

## Text Input

How to script an input Box: This code is in one of the State.cs files where we are trying to capture the input from an InputText GameObject on the corresponding Scene. The difficult part of this code is determining how to capture the event when the user has submitted the input by hitting the enter key. We need to determine how we can add an event Listener within our State.cs instance.

```csharp
      // State.cs instance variable
      private InputField playerName;
      public void InitializeObjectRefs (){
        playerName = GameObject.Find ("PlayerName").GetComponent<InputField> ();
        var se=new InputField.SubmitEvent();   //dynamic variable type //let unity figure out the datatype
        se.AddListener(ProcessInput);
        playerName.onEndEdit=se;    //event is triggered when enter is selected
      }
```

this sets up a call to this created function, the input is a string : This assumes that in `StateManager` we have declared a string public field or property: `public String playerName`

```csharp
    public void ProcessInput(string arg0){
        Debug.Log (arg0);
        string playerName=arg0;
        Debug.Log ("Player Name " + playerName);
    }
```

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://kdoore.gitbook.io/cs2335/overview-branchlogic/text_input.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
